OUR NEWS: Q8 Italy Honoured with SAP award
Q8 Italy has been awarded a prestigious SAP Technology Award 2011 for its Asset Document Management project. The award was presented to Pietro Ferrara, IT & Innovation Director Q8 Italy, on 23rd June at an awards ceremony in Milan during the annual SAP World Tour to showcase innovation.
Alessandro Gilotti, European Operations Director, said: “It is a great honour to win this important award. This is testament to the hard work and dedication not only of my colleagues in Italy, but of the many people across the Q8 organisation who supported this project. It is therefore a success to be shared and celebrated by us all.”
Awarded annually, the SAP Technology Award recognises companies that achieve excellence in planning and implementing SAP programmes, resulting in outstanding benefits to the organisation.
The Asset Document Management project, which was implemented with the support of professional services company KPMG, has been recognised as ‘best practice’. It involves the business process re-engineering and management of Q8 Italy’s retail business, using Lean Six Sigma methodology to optimise processes and SAP tools to manage complex activities by controlling the end to end processes. The new system is very reliable, ensuring a high level of systems and data security.
For Q8 Italy, this has resulted in a totally new way of working for the 250 retail staff across the Rome headquarters and 12 field offices. Over 100 retail processes involving 60,000 documents per annum have been re-engineered, significantly reducing the amount of paperwork. The processes that have gone live have already achieved time savings of an impressive 68 per cent.

Q8 refinery’s high environmental performance
Research has confirmed that Q8’s operations at the Milazzo refinery have minimal environmental impact on its surroundings in the Gulf of Milazzo, which is one of Italy’s most beautiful coastal regions.
The Milazzo refinery is one of Europe's most sophisticated refineries and is ISO 14001 certified, signifying the highest standards of environmental management.
As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, the refinery’s management company (RAM) commissioned the Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) to assess the quality of water in the Gulf of Milazzo, in particular around the refinery.
The independent research was conducted using state of the art research techniques, which included measuring pollution levels by assessing the biodiversity of fish and health of other aquatic species.
Results were presented at a meeting hosted by a leading Italian journalist and attended by the Mayor of Milazzo, together with representatives of the National Centre for Research, universities of Messina and Pisa, Environment Ministry and RAM.
Alessandro Gilotti, Chairman of RAM and Managing Director of Kuwait Petroleum Italia, comments: “We have made a substantial investment over the past decade in environmental protection at the refinery. We are delighted that these positive research results confirm the success of our efforts and provide valuable reassurance to the local community and authorities.”
